Jason O'Mara was born August 6, 1972, in Dublin, Ireland, to Veronica and Stephen O'Mara. He has one brother, Stephen and a sister, Rebecca.
Jason was an avid rugby player, but after he was sidelined with an injury, he tried out for a school play and loved it. He has a degree in drama from Trinity College in Dublin.
Jason performed with The Royal Shakespeare Company and some of his performances are available on books on tape, including Much Ado About Nothing and The Comedy of Errors.
Jason's theatre work in London and Dublin included The Jew of Malta and Popcorn, and he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2002 at the Irish Theatre Awards for his portrayal of John in bash. He appeared in Harold Pinter's The Homecoming in London and Dublin as well as Lincoln Center in New York.
He starred in the following series on BBC: Playing the Field, Berkeley Square, High Stakes and Monarch of the Glen. His U.S. television debut was in HBO's Band of Brothers. In 2002, he filmed a pilot for Fox, Eastwick, and then chose the role of A.B. Stiles on The Agency over a part in Presidio Med.
Jason met his wife, Paige Turco, while filming The Agency. They were married September 19, 2003, and have a son named David. They have residences in both New York and Los Angeles, and visit Jason's family in Ireland often.
Since The Agency was canceled in 2003, Jason has guest starred on CSI Miami, The Closer, and Criminal Minds and has had a recurring role on Men In Trees. He also narrated a few episodes for PBS's Nature Series.
He starred in the pilot, Countdown, for ABC/Touchstone in 2004. Apparently, ABC and Touchstone were impressed by Jason's work because he was signed to a talent-holding deal in which they would develop a drama for him. Jason joined the cast of In Justice, which premiered in January, 2006. The show ran for 13 episodes but wasn't picked up for the 2006/2007 season. Once again ABC and Touchstone were impressed with Jason and signed him to a second talent holding deal to develop a new series or cast him in an existing one, for the 2007/2008 season. Jason starred in the pilot Marlowe as well as being listed as a producer, unfortunately it wasn't picked up. This made Jason available to star in the David Kelley remake of the British series Life on Mars. Life on Mars was supposed to be a possibility for mid-season 2008, but the writer's strike makes that unlikely. We more than likely won't know anything about Life on Mars until the upfronts in May.
Jason has also ventured into the music business, After hearing Boss Volenti's first demo recording, he flew the band to Las Vegas for a two-day shoot for their new video, "I Know What You Want." The video was shot out in the desert, on the Strip, and in the Flamingo Hotel and was directed by Stephen Daly.
Jason's film credits include Summertime (1995), Elodie and Space Truckers (1996). Jason also play Albert Weskler in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007).
